The set has to be sized for that peak — and it has to be quiet enough that nobody in the pews is listening to it instead of the service. Churches are the second largest group in our installed base across Nagaland, and the considerations below are the ones that come up every time.
Size for the full hall, not the average week
The load that matters is a full service: the sound system and its amplifiers, stage and hall lighting, every ceiling fan running, projection if the church uses it, and the fans or cooling in adjoining rooms.
That peak may only occur for a few hours a week, but it is the only number worth designing to. A set that copes with a quiet Tuesday and struggles on Sunday morning has failed at the one job it was bought for.

- Sound system
- Amplifiers, mixing desk and radio microphones. Sensitive to voltage dips — this is the load that makes power quality worth paying attention to.
- Lighting
- Hall, stage and exterior. Steady and predictable, but it all comes on together.
- Fans and cooling
- Every ceiling fan in the hall at once. Motors, so they surge on starting — see the sizing note above.
- Projection and screens
- Small in draw, but visibly disrupted by an unstable supply.
The sound system is the fussiest load in the building
Audio equipment is the most sensitive thing a church runs. An unstable supply shows up as an audible hum, a dip when the fans kick in, or in the worst case an amplifier that shuts itself down mid-service.
A properly sized set with a well-regulated alternator holds voltage steady through those surges. Undersizing shows up here first and most publicly, which is the practical reason not to buy a set that only just fits.
Noise during a service is the whole point
This is where churches differ most from every other kind of building. A generator that is merely acceptable in a factory yard is completely unacceptable thirty metres from a congregation.
An acoustic canopy is essential rather than optional, and where the set is placed matters just as much — distance from the hall, a wall in between, and the exhaust directed away from the congregation and away from the entrance people gather at.
Changeover: how much of a gap is acceptable
With manual changeover, someone leaves the service, starts the set and transfers the load. It works, and plenty of churches run this way — but it means the hall is dark and silent for a minute or two, and it means that person is not in the service.
Automatic changeover removes both problems. The set starts and takes the load on its own, and hands back when the grid returns. For a building where the whole point is that the gathering is not interrupted, that is usually worth the difference.
