Here is what the enclosure actually does, and where the quiet version earns its cost.
What the canopy is doing
An acoustic canopy is a steel enclosure lined with sound-absorbing material, built around the engine and alternator. It is not a cover placed over the set; it is engineered around it.
The hard part is that a diesel engine needs a large volume of air to run and to stay cool. The canopy has to let that air in and out while blocking the sound travelling with it — which is why the air paths inside are baffled rather than straight, and why the exhaust gets its own silencer.

Near classrooms, next to a church hall, behind a hotel, close to a hospital ward, or anywhere with neighbours within earshot, the acoustic version is the only sensible specification — and retrofitting one later costs considerably more than ordering it that way.
Installation matters more than most buyers expect
A canopy gives a fixed reduction. Everything else about the noise is decided on site.
Distance is the most powerful variable available and it is usually free. A solid wall between the set and the occupied space helps substantially. Exhaust direction matters — pointing it away from windows and away from where people gather costs nothing at installation and is awkward to change afterwards. Vibration transmitted through a shared slab can carry into a building even when the airborne noise is well controlled.
It is worth walking the site before committing to a position, rather than putting the set wherever the space happened to be free.
